Smart and Skilled is a NSW Government initiative that provides subsidised training courses to eligible students to help people get training in in-demand skills and industries to get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. Through Smart and Skilled vocational education providers deliver training that meets geographic, occupational and industry needs of communities across NSW.

Who is eligible?

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
  • government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

Under Skills NSW, you may be able to study a fee-free course if you are:

  • 15 years old or over
  • no longer at school
  • living or working in NSW
  • an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.

Remark: Unless the student is eligible for the special circumstances. i.e. eligibility waiver for the Asylum seeker – Temporary Humanitarian visa or the Asylum seeker – bridging visa, youth, NSW Veterans.
